All 530 students at the school participate in the program that teaches students respect for others, to be proactive and to prioritize work before play, among other things.
Reed Lum, a fifth-grader and the school’s SGA president, served as the student leader for the program. “The 7 Habits have taught me to be responsible, to show respect and to put first things first,” Lum said.
They songs for the program were composed by Dedria Echols and Cynthia Garner, exclusively for the students of T.R. Simmons. Each grade, kindergarten through fifth grade, sang about one habit and the entire group presented the final song.
T.R. Simmons and Curry Elementary are the only schools in Walker County participating in the Leader in Me program.
