Area tournament play opens today, Friday

Basketball teams across the Wal-Win area are set to begin area tournament play over the next two days, with the girls teams doing battle today before the boys teams begin their match-ups on Friday.

The Carbon Hill Varsity Boys will host the Class 3A, Area 11 tournament for the second consecutive year, as will the Lynn Lady Bears as they host the Class 1A, Area 12 tournament. Both teams were crowned area champions last season and would move on to the sub-regionals and regional tournaments.

Class 1A

Girls

Area 9 - Berry — The Parrish Tornadoes were defeated by the South Lamar Stallions on Monday 37-27.

Area 12 - Lynn — The Meek Tigers advanced after beating the Brilliant Tigers on Monday 58-47 and will take on the host Lynn Bears today at 7 p.m. The Marion County Red Raiders will battle the Addison Bulldogs today at 5:30 p.m. The winners of both games will square-off on Saturday at 6 p.m. for the Area 12 championship.

Boys

Area 12 - Guin — The Meek Tigers fell to the Brilliant Tigers 58-54 on Tuesday, with Brilliant moving on to battle the host Marion County Red Raiders today. The Lynn Bears and the Addison Bulldogs will square-off at 6 p.m. today. The winners from both contest will meet on Monday at 7 p.m. for the Area 12 Championship.

Area 9 - Reform — With a 60-45 victory over the Hubbertville Lions on Tuesday, the South Lamar Stallions advance to play Pickens County today at 6:30 p.m. The Parrish Tornadoes will face the Berry Wildcats today at 5 p.m. The winners will be featured in Monday’s Area 9 championship game at 7 p.m.

Class 2A

Girls

Area 11 - Cold Springs — The Sumiton Christian Eagles will take on the American Christian Patriots today at 5 p.m. The Oakman Wildcats will battle the host Cold Spring Eagles today at 6:30 p.m. The winning teams will face-off on Monday at 5:30 p.m.

Boys

Area 11 - Cold Springs — The host Cold Spring Eagles will take on the Sumiton Christian Eagles on Friday at 6:30 p.m. The Oakman Wildcats will face the American Christian Academy Patriots on Friday at 5 p.m. The victorious teams will square-off on Monday’s championship game at 7 p.m.

Class 3A

Girls

Area 11 - Winfield — The Cordova Blue Devils will square-off against the host Winfield Pirates today at 5:30 p.m. The Carbon Hill Bulldogs will battle the Hamilton Aggies today at 7 p.m. The winners will meet on Saturday at 1 p.m. for the Area 11 championship.

Boys

Area 11- Carbon Hill — The host Carbon Hill Bulldogs will face the Cordova Blue Devils on Friday at 7:30 p.m. — with the winner advancing to take on the winner of the Hamilton/Winfield match-up on Monday at 7 p.m. for the championship.

Class 4A

Girls

Area 11 - Haleyville — The Dora Bulldogs will face the Corner Yellow Jackets today at 5:30 p.m. with the winner moving to battle the winner of the Haleyville/Fayette County winner on Saturday at 4 p.m. for the Area 11 championship.

Boys

Area 11 - Corner — The Dora Bulldogs will take on the Fayette County Tigers on Friday at 6 p.m., with the victorious team facing the winner of the Corner/Haleyville match-up on Monday at 6:30 p.m. for the championship.

Class 5A

Girls

Area 11 - Hayden — The Walker Vikings take on the Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils today at 6 p.m. The host Hayden Wildcats battle the Curry Yellow Jackets today at 7:30 p.m. The winners of both games will face off in Saturday’s championship game at 3 p.m.

Boys

Area 11 - Kimberly — The Walker Vikings will square-off with the Hayden Wildcats on Friday at 6 p.m. The Curry Yellow Jackets will face the Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The winners will meet in the championship game on Monday at 7 p.m.
