A woman was murdered in the Argo community Tuesday afternoon, and her suspected killer was arrested Tuesday night. Walker County District Attorney Bill Adair said a warrant for murder was issued Tuesday for James Earl Miller, 31, of Empire, by Walker County Circuit Judge Hoyt Elliott. Adair said the judge also issued two search warrants related to the crime.

Miller is suspected of shooting and stabbing an Argo woman around 3 p.m. Tuesday, Adair said. The victim’s name was being withheld until her family could be notified.

Police believe Miller shot and stabbed the woman in Argo and then drove her to a residence on Hill Street in Empire. Adair said the two search warrants were for those locations.

Adair said investigators believe Miller fled into the woods. Members of the Walker County Sheriff’s Office, with help from the Alabama Department of Corrections K-9 Unit, searched throughout east Walker County for Miller Tuesday night. Miller was arrested by officers from the Sumiton Police Department and members of the Walker County Sheriff’s Office on Hull Road shortly after 7 p.m.

Police recovered money and a gun from Miller at the time of his arrest.
