The Christian coffee house, owned by Tonya Stevens and her husband Jerry, opened Saturday and features a large variety of mixed specialty coffees, as well as muffins, cupcake and brownie bites.
The front of the store also sells a variety of Christian merchandise, including Bibles, Bible covers and communion supplies for churches.
Tonya lost her job in September of last year, and said that while she job hunted, she felt that God was leading her in another direction.
“One day, I woke up and I called my husband at work,” Stevens said. “The Lord had just given me the vision of a coffee shop combined with a Christian retail store.”
Getting the business ready to open has been a long, labor intensive process for the couple, who stress that they couldn’t have done it without help from their friends and family, as well as other members of their church. They started renovations on the building in early January.
“It was a lot of hard work,” Stevens said. “But every time I got discouraged, God would send something to encourage me.”
Jesus-N-Java is located at the intersection of Bryan Road and Highway 78, in the old Garibaldi’s location, next to Little Caesar’s. They encourage customers to come in and hang out, read, study or surf the Internet on the free Wi-Fi they offer.
“The biggest thing is the environment,” Stevens said. “Having a Christian, wholesome environment, where people can come in and relax, is the most important thing.”
Jesus-N-Java is open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and until 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. They are closed on Sunday.
