Each Spring the DMA re-starts First Fridays, which are monthly events where merchants keep their stores open while attendants also enjoy activities like musical performers and children’s rides.
“It’s just a time for families to come downtown and enjoy it,” said Jessica Sanders, president of the First Fridays program.
The celebration will be held from 5 p.m. until sundown. Sanders added that local restaurants in the downtown area will also stay open late.
This year, musical performers will include the choir and Jazz band of Bevill State Community College as well Rick and Jilda Watson.
Sanders said the famed fiberglass mules placed in front of businesses downtown will be decorated like Easter bunnies, and each one will have a letter around its neck. The letters will be used for a word jumble with the winner receiving the DMA’s gift certificates, called Downtown Bucks.
