Oliver hits two homers as Lady Eagles top Carbon Hill

CARBON HILL — Sumiton Christian’s Cadi Oliver hit a pair of home runs and picked up the win on the mound as the No. 2 Lady Eagles picked up a 14-0 win at Carbon Hill Thursday.

Oliver finished the game going 3 for 4 with a two-run home run, a three-run home run, a double and five RBIs for Sumiton Christian, which improved to 34-11 on the season.

On the mound, Oliver allowed no hits in four innings. Kendall Beth Sides went the final inning, allowing a hit.

T’Ebonie Tanner was a perfect 3 for 3 in the game with two runs, Clara Bowen was 2 for 3 with a two-run homer and three RBIs, Kathryn Warren was 2 for 3 with a triple, two runs and an RBI, Kirsten Click was 2 for 3 with a double, two runs and an RBI and Katlyn Sides was 1 for 2 with two runs and an RBI.

For Carbon Hill, Meagan Bice had the lone hit.

Sumiton Christian travels to Cullman for a tournament today. The Lady Eagles take on both Hoover and Pelham.

Carbon Hill plays in the Walker County Tournament today. The Lady Bulldogs take on Parrish at 9 a.m.

Parrish sweeps Pickens County

Parrish’s Jamie Beth Hocutt allowed just two hits in two games as the Lady Tornadoes knocked off Pickens County 9-0 and 10-0 on the road Thursday.

In the opener, Hocutt gave up one hit and struck out five in six innings. Camry Lay went the final inning, allowing one hit and striking out one for No. 3 Parrish (31-3).

Savannah Jones was 3 for 4 with four stolen bases, Paige Dill was 2 for 3 with a home run, McKenzie Morgan was 1 for 3 with a stolen base while Maleah Smith, Grayson Culverson, Hocutt and Taylor Winchester each had hits.

In the nightcap, Hocutt allowed one hit and struck out three in five innings.

At the plate, Nina Tucker was 1 for 2 with three RBIs, Grayson Culverson was 2 for 3 with a double, a triple and two RBIs, Jones was 2 for 3 with two stolen bases, Hocutt was 1 for 2 with two RBIs, Morgan was 1 for 2 with two stolen bases and both Winchester and Shonda Culverson each had a hit.

Parrish takes on Carbon Hill at 9 a.m. today in the opener of the Walker County Tournament at Curry High School.



Curry wins Middle School County Tournament

Curry Middle School claimed the Walker County Softball Tournament title on Thursday, defeating Valley 6-2 in the championship game at Curry.

Curry coach Johnny Page’s has now guided Curry to four straight county titles and six over the last seven years.

Taylor Rowe got the win in the title game, allowing six hits and no walks while striking out four in seven innings.

At the plate, Kara Thompson was 2 for 3 with an RBI, Rowe was 1 for 3 with two RBIs and Madison Holmes, Madison Bentley, McKayla Robbins, Hannah York, Emily Aaron and Kaylee Horton each finished 1 for 3.

Curry advanced to the title game with a 7-4 win over Oakman earlier this week. Rowe got the win, allowing five hits, no walks and hitting a batter while striking out four in seven innings.

Horton was 3 for 4 with two runs and an RBI, Thompson was 1 for 2 with two runs and an RBI while Aaron, Robbins, Bentley and Holmes added hits.

Curry (19-3) hosts Hayden on Monday.
