John Michael began his career in journalism at the Daily Mountain Eagle. His early days at the paper were spent as a photographer, news reporter and columnist. Later, he became the managing editor and won many personal awards for writing and reporting. During his tenure there as managing editor, the Daily Mountain Eagle won the General Excellence Award.
