Lewis Sterling Burgess, 78, of Jasper, passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2012, at his residence. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home prior to services.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Boldo Cemetery. Larry Sherer will officiate.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Ada Jackson Burgess; and mother and father-in-law, Clinton and Carrie Woodley Gilmore.

He is survived by his wife, Delores Gilmore Burgess of Jasper; children, Richard Moore of Nashua, N.H., Sheila Piper (Darrell) of Jasper and Felicia Aldridge (Timothy) of Decatur; grandchildren, Erik Piper (Amy) of Pleasant Grove, Daniel Piper (Ani) of Jasper, Jeremy Piper of Jasper, Elisa Maule (David) of Jonesborough, Tenn. and Andrew Aldridge of Auburn; brother, Jimmy Burgess (Glenda) of Corner; sisters, Dorothy Ragland of Warrior, Anne McAnally of Gardendale and Martha Hand (Ray) of Hayden; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Pallbears are Erik Piper, Daniel Piper, Jeremy Piper, Andrew Aldridge, Jeff Gilmore, Greg Gilmore and David Maule. His nephews will serve as honorary pallbears.
