Micah Jett jettisoned his way to an insurmountable 7-stroke, first-round lead in the 2012 Bob Carr Club Championship at Musgrove Country Club on Saturday and never looked back en route to his second club title in three years.

The 2009 Curry High graduate carded an 8-under par 63 in the opening round and followed it up with an even par 71 on Sunday to outdistance his nearest competitor, veteran Rene Williams (70-73), by nine strokes. Jett’s opening round featured only 27 putts.

“I stroked the ball well; hit a lot of greens and made a lot of putts,” said the 21-year-old Jett, who also plays golf at the University of Montevallo where he will be a junior this fall.

Only four other golfers broke par on Saturday.

Williams, Scotty Webb, Marc Wallace and Jody Quick each carded a 1-under par 70 to trail the eventual winner by seven strokes heading into Sunday’s final round.

Jett captured his first Bob Carr Club Championship in 2010 in a playoff. He finished second last year, just one shot behind Marc Wallace. He is the son of Mike and Lisa Jett of Jasper.
