Investigators with the Walker County Sheriff’s Office were busy Monday looking into an alleged assault that reportedly occurred last week, which left a Nauvoo man recovering from a serious head injury.

Walker County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Sgt. Tim Thomas said Timothy Jerome Smith, 38, of Nauvoo, was found dazed and covered in blood on Radiant City Road in Nauvoo on Tuesday, June 12.

“According to the report that was taken by Walker County Sheriff’s Patrol Deputy Gary Knight on the night of June 12, the victim, Mr. Smith, appeared to have been beaten, his head, face and clothing covered in blood.

“He was taken to UAB Medical Center in Birmingham where he was reportedly treated for a severe head trauma,” Thomas said.

According to Thomas, Smith has since been released from the hospital and is reportedly recovering from his injuries.

“The circumstances surrounding this case are currently under investigation, but we don’t have a lot to go on,” Thomas said. “All we know at this point is that the victim was found alone, near what turned out to be his vehicle.”

Anyone with any information regarding the case is asked to contact the Walker County Sheriff’s Office at 205-302-6464.
