The purchase of the truck, a 1999 Ford F-450, was approved by the city council in March.
The city asked for bids earlier in the year and settled on the truck from Brindlee Mountain Fire Apparatus, LLC, in Union Grove.
“We waited a long time for this, and it was something that we really needed,” Mayor and volunteer firefighter Chris Edwards said.
The truck will replace the department’s old Jeep, which had become unreliable. Fire fighters say it will enable them to respond more quickly and efficiently to medical calls within the city.
The cost for the truck was approximately $39,000. The funds came from the fire department, and from a donation made by Dora Utilities toward the purchase.
The new truck was checked over thoroughly and painted black to match the existing trucks.
“We want to thank C&C Paint and Body for donating the labor for painting and Quality Sign for the art work,” Edwards said.
