Oliver, who transferred to Sumiton Christian at the beginning of her sophomore year, was named as the Class 2A Hitter of the Year by the Alabama Sports Writers Association in 2012 for the third consecutive year after also winning the award in 2011 and in 2010 as the Class 3A Hitter of the Year. She was also named to the 2A All-State team as a utility player for her dual roles at shortstop and pitcher.
She is the 2012 Daily Mountain Eagle’s Player of the Year.
The Jacksonville State signee broke several records in her senior year — breaking marks for home runs, triples, RBIs and runs scored in a season, along with most doubles in a game. She held a .589 batting average at the conclusion of the season, with 19 96 runs 34 doubles, five triples and 34 stolen bases — while only striking out four times.
Oliver also proved to be formidable on the mound for the Eagles, striking out 123 batters with nine shutouts and two no-hitters, while only giving up 24 earned runs for a 20-7 record.
“Personally, I feel that she’s one of the best hitters in the state,” Sumiton Christian coach Jessica Aderholt said. “She only struck out four times this year. With the pitching we faced, that’s really good.”
