A 15-year-old from Decatur has been arrested in association with a carjacking that took place in Jasper last week.

Jasper Police Department Investigator Gary Null said the incident happened around 1 a.m. near A.P. Howell Park in the Coke Oven community on Wednesday, June 20.

Null said the 15-year-old suspect, whose name is being withheld because he is a juvenile, approached a female who was inside her vehicle, grabbed her, took her out of the car and beat her.

The suspect then fled the area in the victim’s car.

The victim was taken to Walker Baptist Medical Center where she was treated and released, Null said.

The suspect was located by Jasper police within an hour of the incident happening when Sgt. Jeremy Lockhart spotted him driving the stolen vehicle on Airport Road.

Null said the suspect confessed to the crime and was positively identified by the victim.

The suspect was taken to the Jasper City Jail and was charged with third-degree robbery, first-degree theft of property and first-degree assault.
