Chloe Bennett of the Jasper Sharks competes during the Alabama Recreation and Park Association State Swim Meet held in Opelika last week. Bennett tallied three first-place finishes and a pair of second-place finishes to lead the team. Jasper placed 7th out of 28 teams.
Bennett, competing in the girls 15-18 division, won both the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle events and was the closing leg of the 4x200-yard freestyle relay team that placed first. Bennett also added a pair of second-place finishes during the two-day meet.
As a team, Jasper placed seventh overall. More than 800 swimmers from 28 teams took part in the event.
Bennett wasn’t the only Jasper swimmer to pick up a first-place finish. Ethan West won the boys 8-and-under backstroke. West also had a fourth-place finish in the 25-yard freestyle.
Along with Bennett, Katherine Odle, Anna Nicholson and Samantha Riha made up Jasper’s first-place team in the 200 freestyle relay.
The same group placed second in the 200-yard medley relay.
Riha garnered plenty of points for the Sharks, picking up a pair of second-place finishes. She finished runner up in both the butterfly and backstroke.
Also swimming in the 15-18 division, Sidney Cooper placed second in the breaststroke.
In the boys 11-12 division, Jayce Willingham had three top-five finishes. He placed second in the 50-freestyle, third in the butterfly and fourth in the breaststroke.
In the girls 8-and-under division, Ella Lynn took third in the backstroke and fourth in the breaststroke.
Joseph Daniels added a pair of top-five finishes, placing third in both the backstroke and butterfly.
