Gene Stallings, one of the most beloved coaches in the history of the University of Alabama, will serve as the keynote speaker at an upcoming sportsman’s banquet in Carbon Hill.

The banquet, which is sponsored by First Baptist Church of Carbon Hill, will take place Saturday, Aug. 18 at Carbon Hill High School. The free event will feature a wide variety of food, including a lot of wild game choices. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the meal will begin at 6.

Scott McCullar, pastor at FBC-Carbon Hill, said this is the fourth year the church has sponsored the sportsman’s banquet. Past speakers have included former Alabama quarterback Tyler Watts and former Auburn quarterback Stan White.

“We’ve had some good speakers in the past, but I feel Coach Stallings will be our biggest draw yet,” McCullar said. “Coach Stallings is someone that is respected by Alabama and Auburn fans. I’m excited about him joining us for this event.”

In addition to the free event, McCullar said VIP tickets are available for a special meet and greet with Stallings at 5 p.m. the day of the banquet. The VIP tickets are $100 and include a personal greeting from Stallings, a 1992 Daniel Moore print signed by Moore and Stallings and special seating at the free sportsman’s banquet.

Stallings will also speak at FBC-Carbon Hill the following day, Aug. 19, during the church’s Sunday morning service. The service will begin at 11 a.m., but seating will begin at 10 a.m.

“We’re canceling Sunday school for that day, because we are expecting a larger than normal crowd,” McCullar said. “We’ll go ahead and open the church early so people can have some time to fellowship before the service.”
