PARRISH — Officers with the Parrish Police Department now have help in combatting the illegal activities that occur in their community at night.

Parrish Police Chief Nick Smith said the department recently received three sets of night vision goggles through a military surplus program at no cost to the town. The goggles are valued at approximately $6,000 each.

“We are excited about the new night vision goggles, and we hope to acquire more in the future so each of our patrol cars will be equipped,” Smith said. “The night vision will be a big plus for our officers because sometimes a flash light is not always the answer. The criminals can see us coming with a flashlight.”

Smith said the night vision goggles are an officer’s best defense when it comes to nighttime surveillance and will help Parrish officers to be one step ahead of criminals.

“These goggles are the latest equipment that the department has received through different grants and programs over the past few years,” Smith said. “We now have equipment that this department has never had in its history, and the administrations over the last few years have made that possible.”

Smith said the growth of the Parrish Police Department is consistent with the growth and change in the town of Parrish.

“With election time just around the corner, the police department, as well as other departments, are hoping the new administration will want to keep moving forward to make the Town of Parrish a safe and reputable community that its citizens are proud to live in.”
