Betty R. Vintson, 78, of Cordova, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at Walker Baptist Medical Center. Mrs. Vintson worked at U.S. Secret Air Base in California dealing with F102’s and F106’s. She then worked on Atlas missiles at Vandenburg AFB in records, under the command of SAC. Mrs. Vintson was also the president of Vintson Trucking Company, which included common carriers and contract carrier authority from the Department of Transportation in Washington, D.C. She operated long-haul truck driving in all 48 states including British Columbia, Calgary, Canada and Toronto, Canada. All employees were husband/wife teams, hauling mail, produce and other types of commercial products throughout the United States. She also maintained long-haul husband/wife relief teams. But her most favorite job was raising her family.

Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at Kilgore-Green Chapel. Bill Martin officiated. Burial followed at New Prospect Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia McCrary.

She is survived by her husband, J.W. Vintson of Cordova; daughter, Tonya Lynne Banks of Lillian; grandsons, Greg Hawkins of Chelsea, Chris Banks of Carbon Hill and Austin Banks of Cordova; son-in-law, Jim McCrary of Center Point; brother, David Kiker and wife, Shirley, of Empire; sisters, Faye Steadman and husband, Wallace, of Forestdale and Sue Gray and husband, Horace, of Cleburn, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews and many, many friends.

Pallbearers were Harold Vintson, Jerry Kiker, Andy Morrow, Shannon Sparks, Ray Steadman and Travis Morrow.
