The Curry High School graduate opened the Jasper Tutoring Center in the back of the Parkland Shopping Center, next to Olan Mills. The center is currently open and helping students with test preparation for standardized tests, such as the ACT or SAT. Once school starts, Bair said she will be open to help students from kindergarten to high school seniors with any subject and provide homework help in any area.
“I think that math and reading are always the biggest draws,” Bair said. “But we offer help in all areas.”
Bair hopes to offer scholarship and college counseling to area students, because she feels they often don’t realize how to go about finding things on their own or what steps need to be taken.
“I graduated from high school feeling like I didn’t know what my options were,” Bair said.
After graduating from Curry, Bair found her way to the University of North Alabama, before moving to Nashville for about ten years.
Bair said she also hopes to help revive the county’s gifted program, which she enjoyed participating in during school She said the program has fallen by the wayside somewhat because of concerns over finance, but she hopes her center can offer advanced students an exciting new chance to excel.
The Jasper Tutoring Center will be hosting an open house on Oct. 14, from 2 to 4 p.m. in their offices. For more information or to apply for a tutoring job, call (205) 282-9090, via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or visit the website at www.jaspertutoringcenter.com.
