The Walker County Commission amended its agreement regarding an upcoming airport project on Tuesday.

The Commission, which delayed its regular meeting by one day because of Labor Day, added six tasks to its contract with engineering firm Garver, LLC.

The new language pertained to scope of services and payment for the apron rehabilitation project at Walker County-Bevill Field Airport.

In August, the Commission approved a grant application for $596,700 in federal funds to go toward the upgrade. The county and state will be contributing an additional $33,150 each.

Good Hope Contracting was approved last month as the lowest bidder for the project.

County engineer David Edgil, who was not at Tuesday’s meeting, said previously that the project would include breaking down two to three inches of pavement on the top of the airport’s apron, followed by a new overlay of pavement.

Construction is expected to begin this fall.

In other action from Tuesday’s meeting, chairman Bruce Hamrick said the commission will be holding a budget meeting at 10 a.m. on Thursday in the commission chambers.
