Claire Elizabeth Hartley of Vestavia Hills passed away Sept. 4, 2012, on her 19th birthday. Claire attended Vestavia Hills Schools and graduated from Evangel Christian Academy in May 2012.

Claire was gifted athletically and was a talented softball player. She played on the Pizitz Middle School team and was a metro all-star. She also played on several competitive travel teams and was on Vestavia High School’s golf team. When Claire entered a room, it came to life. She had a vivacious personality, a terrific sense of humor, an infectious smile, and a contagious laugh. Claire was an animal lover and was adored by her Boston Terrier, Tillie, and cat, Yammer.

Claire is preceded in death by her grandfathers, Arthur E. Edwards of Mt. Olive, and Carl Roland Hartley of Goodsprings.

She is survived by her parents, Gregory Roland Hartley and Sherry Edwards Hartley of Vestavia Hills; her brother, U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Evan Matthew Hartley; her grandmothers, Dee Edwards of Mt. Olive and Betty Hartley of Goodsprings; her aunts, Gayle Morgan (Jim) and Sonya Edwards (Steven) of Birmingham; cousins, Bradley Morgan and Mary Margaret Morgan; and numerous loving friends and family members.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at Altadena Valley Presbyterian Church at 4660 Caldwell Mill Road in Birmingham, with visitation immediately following in the fellowship hall.
