Local police, firefighters and paramedics responded to a single-vehicle accident on Tuesday that resulted in one man being evacuated by air to a Birmingham hospital.

The crash occurred near the corner of Jones Dairy Road and Old Birmingham Highway at approximately 8:30 a.m.

Jasper Fire Marshal Alan Clark, who responded to the scene, said the cause of the wreck was not immediately evident.

The condition of the driver and his identity were also not available as of press time Tuesday.

Officers from the Jasper Police Department, the Jasper Fire Department, the Walker County Sheriff’s Office and representatives from Regional Paramedical Services responded to the emergency call.

Lifesaver helicopter airlifted the driver to the Birmingham-area hospital.

Clark said all of the groups involved in the emergency call did an excellent job.

“These guys put it on the line everyday,” he said.

Clark said the crash on Old Birmingham Highway was the third wreck with critical injuries to occur in the Jasper area since Thursday, and two of those three wrecks resulted in fatalities.
