Curry’s volleyball team continues to cruise this season.

Gardendale was Curry’s latest victim.

The Yellow Jackets, ranked No. 6 in 5A, moved to 15-2 on the season with a 25-23, 25-20, 25-19 victory over the Rockets on Tuesday.

For Curry, seniors Chloe Bennett, Mary Beth Scott, Bretta Lane, Jessie Bagwell, Payton Norris and Kendall Chance led the way.

Bennett had 13 kills and seven digs, Scott had eight kills, two digs and a block, Lane added seven digs, three kills, two blocks and a pair of aces, Bagwell had 26 assists, 10 digs, one kill, one block and an ace, Norris had 29 digs and an ace while Chance had 31 digs, three aces, one kill and one assist.

Also for the Jackets, Josie Walker had five kills and a dig, Holli McGinnis had 16 digs, Gabby Englebert had two kills and a block and Jordan McPherson had 15 digs and three aces.

Curry has played well in tournaments this season, winning the season-opening Carbon Hill Invitational Tournament and advancing to the semifinals of the Muscle Shoals Tournament. Losses this season have come against Addison — ranked No. 2 in 1A — and Lawrence County — ranked No. 5 in 5A.

Curry plays at Carbon Hill on Thursday opening with the JV match at 4:30 p.m.



Carbon Hill wins pair; Dora splits

Carbon Hill improved to 4-0 in area play with a pair of wins at Dora High School on Tuesday, beating Dora and Oak Grove.

Against Dora, Carbon Hill earned a 25-23, 25-16, 31-29 win.

Maggi Clark paced Carbon Hill (10-4) with 10 kills, two blocks and three aces, Savannah Edmonds had six kills and four aces, Savanna Lawson added three kills, two blocks and two aces, Meagan Bice had seven kills and two aces, Kendall Norris had 10 digs and two aces, Emily Posten had 14 assists and an ace while Jessica Hurst contributed 10 assists and Kayla Blankensopp had three kills.

For Dora (11-12, 2-2), Hannah Wilson had 14 assists and five kills, Madisen Bencko had five kills, Lydia Sanders added 14 digs, Carrie Weldon had 8 digs, Shelicia Meadows had three aces and Jill Turman had four blocks.

Carbon Hill followed with a 25-5, 25-11, 25-21 win over Oak Grove.

For the Bulldogs, Clark had 13 kills, three aces, two digs and a block, Edmonds added five kills, six aces and three digs while Lawson had five kills and three blocks, Bice had 12 kills, two assists and five aces, Blankensopp had four assists and two kills and Norris had 15 digs and two aces.

Dora closed out the day with a 25-19, 25-22, 25-22 win over the Lady Tigers.

For Dora, Larissa Steeley and Jordan Reese each had five kills, Sanders added 15 digs, Lyndsey Johnson had 11 digs, Wilson added 13 assists and both Meadows and Bencko had five aces.

Dora hosts Parrish on Thursday beginning at 4 p.m. Carbon Hill hosts Curry on Thursday starting with the JV match at 4:30 p.m.



Addison notches 19th and 20th wins

Addison topped the 20-win mark on Tuesday, beating Danville and Winston County.

The Bulldogs (20-2) defeated Danville 23-25, 25-15, 15-7 and Winston County 25-16, 25-20.

For Addison, Chelsea Posey had 11 kills, 15 digs and four blocks, Holly Posey had 15 kills, 16 digs, 19 assists and six blocks, Jessy Taylor had 10 kills and nine blocks and Stora Gilliland had 20 digs.

Addison hosts Lynn and Meek beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.



Cordova tops Hamilton

Cordova moved one win away from hosting the 3A, Area 13 Tournament after a straight-set win over Hamilton on Tuesday at Cordova High School.

The Blue Devils earned a 25-10, 25-16, 25-16 victory.

Cordova (16-6 overall, 2-0 in area play) will take on Winston County next week with the winner hosting the area tournament later this month.

Against Hamilton, Faith Sims led Cordova with 20 kills, Sydnie Hitchcock had nine kills and seven digs, Tiffany Colburn added 15 assists and 10 digs and Emily Wilson had 22 assists.

Cordova hosts Haleyville and West Blocton beginning at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
