CORNER — Dora used another outstanding rushing performance from Kai Thomas and Caleb May, along with five Corner turnovers, and cruised to a 39-17 victory over the Yellow Jackets on the road Friday night.

On the third play of the game, Dora’s JaiCorian Parker grabbed the first of three interceptions he had on the night to set the Bulldogs up at the Corner 46-yard line.

Dora (3-0, 2-0) struck quickly on its third play as May ripped off a 29-yard run to pay dirt. The PAT was good as Dora led 7-0.

Corner fared better on its next possession as the Jackets put together a 66-yard drive capped by a Troy Elliott 36-yard field goal to make it 7-3. Dora got going again, following Parkers second INT. May again found the end zone, this time on a 15-yard run. The point after was good this time making it 14-3 in favor of the Bulldogs. On the game, May finished with 100 yards on 12 carries, he also added 41 yards passing.

Dora would find the end zone once more in the first half when DeMarcus Kirk rumbled for 5 yards and a score. The kick failed and Dora went to the locker room with a 20-3 lead.

Corner (1-2, 1-1), opened the second half with an onside kick, which the Jackets recovered at midfield. On their very first play, quarterback Blake Byrd was again intercepted by Parker to stifle yet another Corner drive.

Dora’s next two possessions resulted in punts, thanks to a tough defensive effort by the Yellow Jackets. On Dora’s second punt, Corner fumbled the ball at its own 7-yard line. DeAngelo Pendleton scooped up the loose ball and ran it in for a Bulldog touchdown. The PAT was good this time and Dora led 27-3.

Later in the third quarter after yet another Jacket miscue, Dora took over at the Corner 36 and marched seven plays as Kirk, who added 73 yards on the night rushing, went in from the 2-yard line for his second score of the game. The kick again failed and Dora led 33-3 heading to the final frame.

Byrd finally got the Jackets going in the fourth quarter leading them to two scores. The first came as Byrd scored from the 1 to cap a 60 yard drive. Elliott was good to cut the Dora lead to 33-10.

Thomas, who leads the Bulldogs in rushing, got in the act on the first play of Dora’s next possession, as he got loose down the left sideline and raced 65 yards for the Dogs’ final score. Again the conversion failed and Dora led 39-10.

Corner, led by Byrd’s 56 yards rushing and 108 yards passing, closed out the scoring as Austin Sanford scored from 9 yards out. Elliott kicked it to a final of 39-17 as Dora remained undefeated.

On the night, the Bulldogs amassed 343 yards on the ground led by Thomas with 127 yards rushing. The Bulldogs were led on defense by Robert Johnson and Stonie Phillips.

“We’re certainly happy to be undefeated in the region, but we will need to improve because we have a tough schedule ahead,” Dora coach Johnny Wright said.

Dora returns home next Friday to host West Blocton in region play while Corner takes on Calera.
