Paul Kennedy, president of the community foundation, said the concert would feature Walker County singers and songwriters. Kennedy, speaking to members of the Kiwanis Club of Jasper, said the free event is a gift to the community.
“We feel like the Bankhead House is a place that we need to celebrate,” Kennedy said. “All the events we sponsor here are designed to be free so the community can come and celebrate Walker County.”
Kennedy said the concert, which will take place at the Bankhead House’s amphitheater, will be a family friendly event featuring songs written by local residents and the stories behind them. He said genres of music will include country, rockabilly, contemporary Christian and folk. The lineup of artists include Skip Cochran, Michael Cannon, Rick and Jilda Watson, Joe Greg Winslett and The Spook House Saints.
“We have some fantastic musicians in Walker County,” Kennedy said. “I think people will be surprised by the musical talent that we have scheduled for Sunday’s concert.”
The two-hour concert is set to start at 2 p.m. Sunday. Kennedy urged anyone planning on attending the event to bring a blanket or lawn chair. The Bankhead House is located at 800 West 7th Street. For more information on the concert, call 205-302-0001.
