Carbon Hill girls pick up win at Winfield

Carbon Hill’s volleyball team shook off a tough weekend with a four-set win at Winfield on Monday.

The Bulldogs earned a 25-23, 23-25, 25-23, 25-23 victory to improve to 12-8 on the season. Carbon Hill didn’t have the same success on Saturday, finishing 1-3 at the Trinity Presbyterian Invitational in Montgomery.

Against Winfield, Maggi Clark led Carbon Hill with an all-around performance. She had 22 kills, six digs and four aces, Savanna Lawson had eight kills, five blocks, four digs and three aces, Savannah Edmonds added five kills and two aces, Meagan Bice had 16 kills and nine digs, Kendall Norris had 18 digs, Lindsay Madison had 12 digs, Jessica Hurst had 15 assists and nine digs while Emily Posten added 24 assists, two kills and two aces.

At Trinity, Carbon Hill knocked off Russell County 25-8, 25-20, but lost its other three matches, falling to St. James (25-16, 25-22), Trinity (25-21, 25-17) and Prattville Christian (27-29, 25-11, 15-8).

For the tournament, Clark had 20 kills, nine aces and seven digs, Bice had 17 kills and two aces, Edmonds had eight kills and six aces, Lawson added nine blocks and three kills, Norris had 29 digs and seven aces while Posten added 29 assists and four aces.

Carbon Hill (12-8) plays at Parrish beginning at 4 p.m. today.



Cordova earns 20th win

Cordova swept past Oak Grove on the road on Monday, improving to 20-9 with the win.

For the Blue Devils, who won 25-10, 25-18, 25-16, Faith Sims had 10 kills, Sydnie Hitchcock had five kills, Tiffany Colburn added 12 assists and 11 digs and Emily Wilson had 10 assists and five digs.

Cordova travels to Curry for a 5:30 p.m. match today.



Dora outlasts Parrish

Dora needed five sets to beat Parrish Monday night.

The Bulldogs (13-12) won 18-25, 25-13, 25-15, 17-25, 15-9.

For Dora, Jordan Reese had seven kills, five blocks and five aces, Madisen Bencko had seven kills, Hannah Wilson had 19 assists, Shelicia Meadows added 20 digs, Lindsey Johnson had 15 digs and four aces while Lydia Sanders chipped in with 16 digs.

Dora plays at Sumiton Christian on Thursday with the JV match starting at 4 p.m.
