JACKSONVILLE — Different surroundings yielded a familiar result for Collinsville.

The No. 8-ranked Panthers scored 49 unanswered points through three quarters and defeated Sumiton Christian 49-14 in Class 1A non-region high school football Friday night at Burgess-Snow Field at JSU Stadium.

Collinsville coach Alan Beckett use some connections with Jacksonville State to arrange for use of the facility, and his team took advantage of the chance to play on the big stage.

The Panthers (4-0) used big plays to gash a Sumiton team playing without its best player. Running back DeMonte’ Hobbs was unavailable due to a knee injury.

With the Panthers already leading 14-0, Collinsville scored three long TDs in the second quarter. Quarterback C.J. Jones connected with Deshawn Moore for 49 yards and a 21-0 lead with 8:05 left before halftime.

Jones connected with Edgar Padilla for 38 yards and a score, and Padilla closed the first-half scoring on a 36-yard run at the 2:02 mark.

Austin Clark picked up TDs for Sumiton (2-2) in the fourth period on runs of 3 and 5 yards.

Collinsville returns to Region 7 play next Friday with a key game against Donoho at home. Sumiton will play host to Falkville.
