Walker County District Attorney Bill Adair confirmed the raids were conducted in a joint operation between his office, the Alabama Attorney General’s Office and the Walker County Sheriff’s Office.
The raids were initiated by the AG’s office, Adair said.
“I can confirm the raids took place, but any other information would have to come from the attorney general,” he said.
Attorney General Luther Strange could not be reached for comment Tuesday, but officials with his press office said information regarding the raids could be released as early as today.
The Daily Mountain Eagle has learned the location of the raids were at the former Arrowhead Golf Course on Holly Grove Road just outside of Jasper and at a home in Nauvoo.
Adair said it is obvious that illegal gambling is a problem in Walker County.
He said Tuesday’s raid combined with the robbery that happened at an illegal gambling hall last week shows there is an issue.
“These places can cause some terrible things,” he said. “My office is happy to assist Attorney General Strange in any way.”
