Oakman splits tri-match with Parrish, Meek

OAKMAN — Oakman’s volleyball team opened with a win and closed with a narrow loss in a home tri-match vs. Parrish and Meek on Tuesday.

The Wildcats (10-13) won the opener, beating Parrish 25-21, 25-14 and lost the second match to Meek 25-23, 21-25, 16-14.

Against Parrish, Hannah Bonner had four aces, two blocks, one dig and one kill for the Wildcats.

Lindsey Harbison added four kills, four blocks and an ace, Mallory Nunnelley had three digs and two aces, Caroline Thompson had two kills and a block, Khaley Smith had two kills, two aces and one dig, Brianna Aldridge had two kills and Jordan Harbison added 11 assists, three blocks and one kill.

In the loss to Meek, Jordan Harbison had 13 assists, five kills, three aces and one block, Thompson had three aces, three kills and two blocks, Bonner added four kills and two digs and Smith had four kills and one block.

Oakman hosts Cordova on Thursday.

Dora locks up 2nd in area

Dora locked up second place in its area with a pair of wins on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs defeated Oak Grove 25-16, 25-20, 25-17 before beating Corner 25-16, 25-14, 23-25, 25-16.

In the opener, Alexia Smith had eight kills and two blocks, Raine Barnes had five kills, Hannah Wilson added 15 assists, Shalicia Meadows had 13 digs, Lydia Sanders had 12 digs, Linsdey Johnson had 10 digs and Madisen Bencko had four aces.

Against Corner, Smith had 15 kills, Bencko had eight kills, Wilson added 20 assists, Meadows had 16 digs and three aces, Sanders had 19 digs, Carrie Weldon had 20 digs and Jordan Reese had three blocks.

Dora (18-14, 4-2) hosts Brilliant beginning with the JV match at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Curry splits pair at Hartselle

Curry locked up with Hartselle in a battle of ranked volleyball teams Tuesday.

When the last spike hit the floor, the Yellow Jackets dropped a three-set battle on the road, 20-25, 25-19, 15-11 to the No. 1 team in Class 5A.

Curry, ranked No. 5, opened the day with an easy 25-18, 25-2 win over East Limestone.

Against Hartselle, Jessie Bagwell had 14 assists, five digs, one kill, one ace and one block, Bretta Lane had four kills and one block, Mary Beth Scott had one kill and one dig, Chloe Bennett added six kills, three digs and a block, Holli McGinnis had 10 digs and a kill, Gabby Englebert had two blocks, one kill and one ace, Jordan McPherson had five digs and one assist, Kendall Chance added four digs and one assist while Payton Norris had 20 digs and three aces.

In the opener, Bagwell had 19 assists, three digs, four aces and a kill, Walker had two kills, one dig and one ace, Lane had seven kills, Scott had one kill, one assist and one block, Bennett had eight kills and one dig, McGinnis had six digs and two aces, Englebert had three kills, two aces, one block and one dig, McPherson added seven digs and one assist, Chance had seven digs and Norris had four digs and one assist. Curry (28-6) hosts Dora on Monday.
