Sgt. Daryl Atkins, an investigator with the Jasper Police Department, said Terry Joe Allums was killed around 4:45 a.m. Wednesday morning. Atkins said Allums was 50 years old.
“Mr. Allums had no identification on him, but family members identified him on Thursday,” Atkins said.
Allums was walking along Highway 5, in the area of Snoddy Chapel Road, when he was struck by multiple vehicles. Allums was pronounced dead on the scene.
Atkins said Allums reportedly lived less than two miles from where he was hit. Atkins added that heavy fog was probably a contributing factor to the incident.
“When I arrived on the scene, the fog was very heavy,” Atkins said. “It was still dark, and combined with the fog, that would have made it pretty tough to see someone walking along the roadway.”
Atkins said he did not expect charges to be filed in the incident, but it remains under investigation by the Jasper Police Department.
