And the Bulldogs couldn’t have done it without quarterback Caleb May.
The dual-threat senior piled up 307 yards of offense, guiding Dora to a narrow 27-25 victory over Bibb County.
May opened the scoring with an 80-touchdown strike to Devanta Gosha and he added what proved to be the game-winning score with a 61-yard touchdown pass to Deionte Smith.
May finished the game 10 of 20 passing for 262 yards and two scores. He also rushed nine times for 47 yards as the Bulldogs moved to 4-0 in region play and knocked off the three-time defending region champs.
May is the Daily Mountain Eagle’s Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.
May has rushed for 461 yards and five touchdowns while throwing for another 533 yards and four scores on the season.
On the defensive side of the ball, Walker’s defense man-handled visiting Hayden 37-0 on homecoming night.
The Vikings’ unit held the Wildcats to just 126 total yards in the game with 44 of those coming on a long pass play against Walker’s reserves in the fourth quarter.
Walker linebacker Blake Moore led the Vikings making 10 stops, including one for loss in just over one half of play as the team improved to 4-0 in region play on the season.
Moore is the Daily Mountain Eagle’s Defensive Player of the Week.
For the year, Moore leads the area with 76 tackles.
Other top performances:
•Lynn quarterback Brody Meeks totaled 487 all-purpose yards and accounted for two touchdowns in the Bears’ 42-18 loss to No. 1-ranked Marion County.
Meeks was all over the field for the Bears, rushing 19 times for 151 yards, and completing 14 of 24 passes for another 256 yards. He also had 80 return yards.
On the season, Meeks now has 614 rushing yards to go along with 701 passing yards.
•Area rushing leader Kai Thomas had a big game in the Bulldogs’ win over Bibb County, rushing 16 times for 144 yards and two scores.
He had scoring runs of 2 and 39 yards and now has 889 yards and 14 touchdowns on the season.
•Walker’s Quadrekas Key caught five passes for 98 yards and a touchdowns in the Vikings’ 37-0 rout of Hayden on Friday. Key caught a 40-yard touchdown pass from Blake Wilkes in the opening quarter and hauled in a 33-yard strike from Bryant Atkins in the second quarter.
•Winston County’s Seth Blanton continued his stellar season, completing 6 of 9 passes for 174 yards and a touchdown in the Yellow Jackets’ 31-16 victory over winless Cordova. Receiver Dylan Earnest caught five passes for 126 yards and a touchdown for the Yellow Jackets.
•Oakman’s Jase Trotter completed 10 of 17 passes for 108 yards and a touchdown and also rushed for 20 yards on six carries in the Wildcats’ 21-14 win over Sulligent. Defensively, Tyler Linzer had seven tackles and a sack.
•Corner’s Blake Byrd completed 7 of 10 passes for 154 yards and a touchdown and added a rushing score in the Yellow Jackets’ 35-28 win over Oak Grove. Austin Sanford added 97 yards and two touchdowns on the ground and also returned a kickoff 80 yards for the game-winning score.
•Curry’s offense put up big numbers for the second straight week, but the Yellow Jackets also lost for the second straight week, falling to Springville 34-31. Curry quarterback Bradley Loggins completed 16 of 27 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Terry Pruitt added 149 yards and a score on 16 carries.
