There is a $50 per boat entry fee and the money will be used to build a new fire station across the river. This station would serve an area that 9-1-1 currently dispatches Parrish to and it would lower ISO ratings for those residents.
ISO Ratings are determined by a variety of factors that measure the efficiency of the fire department’s response and equipment. Home insurance agencies use these ratings to determine insurance rates.
These tournaments will be held each week and will be either bass or crappie tournaments, to be determined each week by the participants.
The tournaments will also have the added element of tag fishing. Fish in the river have been tagged with colored tags in conjunction with the local game warden. Each month is assigned a color and participants catching a fish with that month’s color will receive a certain dollar amount. Catching a fish with a black tag will result in a $1,000 prize. Anyone interested in participating in the tournament can contact Billy Click at 205-300-6105.
The department will also be restarting its paper bingo program — which it stopped while electronic bingo was operating in the county — to help fund the construction of the new station.
