SUMITON — The Addison Bulldogs traveled to Sumiton to take on the Sumiton Christian Eagles in a Class 1A, Region 6 battle on Friday night.

The Bulldogs came away with a 47-7 victory.

John Everett got the scoring going early for the Bulldogs as he connected with Jesse Seales for an 85-yard touchdown strike on Addison’s second offensive play. Kaleb Estill’s PAT made the score 7-0 with 7:29 left in the first.

After forcing a Sumiton Christian (2-4, 2-3) punt the Bulldogs scored on their second consecutive possession as they put together an 8 play 53-yard drive that resulted in a Dustin Bladow 4-yard touchdown run. The PAT was no good and the Bulldogs led 13-0 with 1:29 left in the opening quarter.

The next possession for the Eagles resulted in a quick turnover as an Eagle receiver lost the ball. Addison took over on the Sumiton Christian 46 yard line and scored on the first play after the turnover.

Everett and Seales hooked up again for a 46-yard touchdown pass.

Everett then took the ball in on the 2-point conversion to push the Bulldogs lead to 21-0 with less than a minute left in the first. The Eagles were forced to a three-and-out on the ensuing possession which then led to another Addison scoring drive. It was a 9-play 42-yard drive which was capped off by a Jake Wade 3-yard touchdown run. Estill’s PAT was good and the Bulldogs then led 28-0 midway through the second quarter. The two teams then swapped punts and both teams turned the ball over on downs to end the first half with the score remaining 28-0.

The Eagle defense came out to start the second half and forced the Bulldogs to punt on their first possession. Addison then made a big defensive play as Levi Aldridge scooped up an Eagle fumble and returned it 34-yards for the score. The PAT was missed leaving the score at 34-0 with 8:29 left in the third.

The next score of the game didn’t come until early in the fourth quarter as Seales returned an Eagle punt 58-yards to set up the Bulldogs on the Sumiton Christian 1-yard line.

Wade then punched it in for the Bulldogs for his second score of the night to put Addison up 41-0.

Another turnover then cost the Eagles another score as Aldridge once again returned a fumble. This time it was a 70-yard return to put the Bulldogs up 47-0. Sumiton Christian was finally able to get on the board late in the game. Senior quarterback Austin Clark ran the ball in for an 8-yard score and Trey Collins added the PAT to make the final score 47-7.

All three of the Eagles’ turnovers resulted in touchdowns for Addison. Wade led all rushers in the game with 50 yards on 10 carries and two touchdowns.

Bladow had 42 yards on 11 touches and a touchdown. Everett finished the night with 165 yards passing as he was 6-of-8 with two touchdowns. The Bulldogs ended the night with 299 total yards of offense.

The Eagles were led offensively by Clark who had 38 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown. Nathan Godwin also added 36 yards on 10 rushes. Clark also had 123 yards through the air and was 12-of-23. Sumiton Christian finished with 196 yards of offense.

Addison will host a key region game with undefeated Falkville next Friday night.

In the past five games, the Bulldogs have allowed just 10 points.

The Eagles will travel to Ragland to take on the undefeated Purple Devils in another Class 1A, Region 6 contest.
