A new website, constructed by the Walker County Sheriff’s Office, has been designed as a way to improve communication between the law enforcement agency and county residents.

The website,, includes photographs of recently arrested individuals, contact information for the sheriff’s office and the Walker County Jail and information about the many divisions of the sheriff’s office.

“We created the website so everyone would have an easier way to get information about the sheriff’s office,” said Ralph Williams, an investigator with the sheriff’s office who designed the website. “If you aren’t around a computer, the site also has a mobile format that enables it to be easily viewed from your cell phone.”

The website has only been viewable for two weeks, but Williams said it’s already seeing a lot of traffic.

“We’ve had over 4,500 page views, and we haven’t really advertised it,” he said.

Williams said the mugshots of suspects have proven to be a popular spot on the site. He said citizens have also told him they are happy to be able to download pistol permits online.

“There’s a lot on there. We just want it to be something the community can use,” Williams said. “If anyone has suggestions about other things they’d like to see on there, don’t hesitate to contact us.”

Walker County Sheriff John Mark Tirey said the process of building the site was a “major undertaking.”

“Ralph Williams has done a great job with putting this website together,” Tirey said. “I’m pleased with how it has turned out, and I hope people will use it. We’ve even put a place on there where citizens can anonymously e-mail drug complaints. Our folks will be following up any leads left on the website, just the same as they follow up on leads that are called into our office.”
