Whether he was lining up at running back or quarterback, there was no stopping Harris.
The Parrish junior put on a one-man show in a 62-36 homecoming rout against Brilliant. Harris totaled 351 yards of offense and seven touchdowns. He added a 2-point conversion for a total of 44 points for the game.
Harris rushed for 277 yards and five touchdowns on 21 carries. He also completed 4 of 6 passes for 74 yards and two touchdowns. Harris had touchdown runs of 58, 59, 98, 28 and 5 yards. He also threw touchdown passes covering 30 and 12 yards. He now has 978 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground this season.
Harris is the Daily Mountain Eagle’s Offensive Player of the Week. He beat out Corner quarterback Blake Byrd and receiver Kerry Smith for the top honors.
On defense, Oakman’s Don Tyler Jackson put together a game-changing performance in the Wildcats’ playoff-clinching win over Hale County.
The senior linebacker recorded 15 tackles, including four for a loss as the Wildcats edged Hale County 21-14, keeping Oakman on track for its first region title since the 2003 season.
Jackson led an Oakman defense that had seven total tackles for a loss and forced four turnovers. Hale County also had just one offensive touchdown and 172 yards total yards.
Jackson, who now has 83 tackles on the season, is the Daily Mountain Eagle’s Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Other top performances
•Corner quarterback Blake Byrd totaled 322 yards of offense and three touchdowns in the Yellow Jackets’ 24-21 over Jemison. Byrd completed 14 of 24 passes for 276 yards and three touchdowns. He had touchdown passes of 65, 33 and 13 yards. Byrd also rushed 13 times for 46 yards. Byrd hit receiver Kerry Smith on a 13-yard touchdown with only 43.7 seconds left for the winning score. Smith finished 11 receptions for 212 yards and all three scores. Smith now has 46 catches for 803 yards and nine touchdowns on the season.
•Dora’s rushing attack proved to be too much for Oak Grove on Friday as the Bulldogs picked up 460 yards on the ground. Kai Thomas led the way with 144 yards and three scores on just six carries. DeMarcus Kirk added 97 yards and a touchdown on four carries while quarterback Caleb May rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown on three carries and also completed 4 of 6 passes for 71 yards. Defensively, Cade Stone had 14 tackles and Joel Parrish added a pair of sacks.
•Walker running back Tyler Phillips had 160 yards of offense and a pair of touchdowns in the Vikings’ 22-12 victory at Center Point. Phillips rushed 13 times for 121 yards and two scores and also caught two passes for 39 yards.
•Addison’s Levi Aldridge returned two fumbles for touchdowns as the Bulldogs’ knocked off Sumiton Christian 47-7. Aldridge’s touchdowns went for 30 and 68 yards. On offense, Addison’s Jesse Seals has three receptions for 146 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Quarterback John Everett was 6 of 7 passing for 212 yards and both scores.
•Oakman’s Jase Trotter racked up 215 offensive yards and three scores in the Wildcats’ 21-14 win over Hale County. Trotter threw for 138 yards and rushed for another 77 yards. Quinton Harris caught four passes for 88 yards and a touchdown.
