Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, New Horizon Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at McCormack Cemetery. Elder Roger Miller will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 17, 2012, at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Austin Smith; brothers, Roland Auldin “Champ” and W.A. “Shorty” Smith; and one sister, Lucy Smith Allums.
His survivors include his spouse of 56 years, Opal Weldon Smith; son, Terry (Debbie) Smith; daughter, Pam (Donny) McGough; grandchildren, Matt (Mia) Smith, Nick (Lindsay) Smith, Madison and Austin McGough; and great-grandson, Jack Smith; brother, Ray (Johanna) Smith; sisters, Arlene Kitchens and Kitty (Eddie) Key; sisters-in-law, Lillian Smith, Anne Hunt and Bobbie Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Mr. Smith was a 1955 graduate of Corner High School. He retired from CAPSCO, Inc. after 30 years of service.
Mr. Smith was a faithful member of Liberty Primitive Baptist Church for 42 years. He served as a Deacon of the church for 40 years. He was a founding member of the McCormack Cemetery Fund and was still actively serving as Chairman.
