The Jasper City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved a retail liquor license for Los Reyes.
Each of the council members present at the meeting said they were pleased that a business is moving into the former Olive Branch location in downtown Jasper.
Council members Gary Cowen and Johnny Rollins said they believe Los Reyes will help with a larger effort to attract more businesses to Jasper’s downtown area.
Cesar Pedraza, who owns Los Reyes with his two brothers, Carlos and Ignacio, said the feedback from the community has been incredibly positive.
“People have been calling, texting and asking me on Facebook about it every day,” he said.
The three brothers have worked at local Mexican restaurants for almost 20 years. Cesar, for example, started as a dishwasher and worked his way up to a management position at a local restaurant.
“It was a dream to have our own place one day,” Carlos Pedraza said. “This seemed like the perfect place to do it.”
Los Reyes will offer typical Mexican cuisine like fajitas and burritos and serve lunch and dinner seven days a week.
The three brothers said they have been so well received in the community that they consider Jasper a second home.
“We feel like we belong here,” Cesar Pedraza said.
