Funeral services will be today, Oct. 18, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the New Horizon Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in McCormack Cemetery. Elder Roger Miller will officiate. Visitation was held Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Austin Smith; and brothers, Roland, Auldin “Champ”, and W.A. “Shorty” Smith; and one sister, Lucy Smith Allums.
His survivors include his spouse of 56 years, Opal Weldon Smith; son, Terry (Debbie) Smith; daughter, Pam (Donny) McGough; grandchildren, Matt (Mia) Smith, Nick (Lindsay) Smith, and Madison and Austin McGough; and great-grandson, Jack Smith; brother, Ray (Johnna) Smith; sisters, Arlene Kitchens, Kitty (Eddie) Key; sisters-in-law, Lillian Smith, Anne Hunt, Bobbie Smith, Martha Weldon, Mary Weldon, Barbara Ann Weldon, Rosemarie Weldon; brothers-in-law, J.D. Allums and Jimmy Weldon (Janet); and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mr. Smith was a 1955 graduate of Corner High School. He retired from CAPSCO Inc. after 30 years of service.
Mr. Smith was a faithful member of Liberty Primitive Baptist Church in Dora for 42 years. He served as a Deacon of the church for 40 years. He was a founding member of the McCormack Cemetery Fund, and was still actively serving as Chairman.
