Gilbert S. “Gib” Haney, 64, of Northport, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at DCH in Tuscaloosa.

Funeral services will be Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, at 1:30 p.m., in the Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel with burial to follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park. Dr. John Nixon will officiate. Visitation will be today, Oct. 20, 2012, from 7 until 9 p.m. at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Tuscaloosa.

Gib was born in Russellville, Ala. on Nov. 20, 1947. He graduated from Carbon Hill High School in 1967. He was a native of Walker County before moving to Tuscaloosa in the early ‘70s due to his love of the University of Alabama athletics and to proudly attend the University of Alabama. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and served in combat duty during the Vietnam War 1967-68. Through the years Gib held various positions in the workforce and spent several years working for Jim Walter Mines.

Gib married his best friend, Bessie, on June 4, 1993, and they spent 19 wonderful years together enjoying family, friends, all Alabama sporting events and their loving church. Gib was a loyal friend to so many and he will be missed by all of us. He dearly loved his three children and was so proud of each of them and their accomplishments.

He was also a devoted grandfather to his grandchildren and seldom missed their sporting events. He is now in heaven with his Heavenly Father, and his hearing and health have finally been restored.

Gib was preceded in death by his mother, Arcula Haney; father, Wallace Harris; and grandmother, Lillie Mae Harris.

He is survived by wife, Bessie Seals Haney of Northport; daughters, Shannon Leigh Haney of Calera; step-daughter, Amy (Shane) Housley of Coker; sons, Cary Christopher Haney of Washington, D.C., and Geoffrey Blake Haney of Tuscaloosa; step-son, Shane (Amy) Clemmons of Northport; brother, Joe Harris (Angie) of Delphi, Indiana and Robert Harris of Frankfort, Indiana; sisters, Donna Lowry (Darrin) of Delphi, Indiana and Lela Boyles of Flora, Indiana; grandchildren, Keelie Housley, Lindsie Housley, Taylor Clemmons, Cooper Clemmons; and his special grand-dogs, Mattie and Max.

Pallbearers will be Cary Haney, Blake Haney, Sammy Seals, Shane Clemmons, Taylor Clemmons, Cooper Clemmons, and Andy Haydee.

Honorary pallbearers will be American Legion Post 208, Vietnam veterans, Disabled American Veterans, Eugene and Marquerite Seals, Betty Seals, Jill Seals, Sonja Guy, Bettie and David McCray, Roz and Rufus Payne, Bill and Dian McDonald, Roy and Kathy Giles, Ray and Ruby Yeatman, “Shorty” Crawford, members of Northport Baptist Church, Carl Wilson Sunday School Class, R.E.A.C.H. and Mrs. Betty Lambert, friends and family in Eldridge and Haleyville, friends from Buddy’s and Mr. Bill’s, Snow Sleep Center, employees of Buffalo Rock, DCH Emergency Room staff, and V.A. Hospital staff.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Eldridge Baptist Children’s Home or the Northport Baptist Church Building Fund.
