The program was created by the Sumiton Police Department and Sumiton Fire and Rescue to create a partnership with local business owners to improve safety and enhance the quality of life in the city.
According to the organizers, the framework for the partnership is:
•Improve communications with businesses and public safety
•Liaison with the Community Relations Team
•Hold quarterly meetings
•Issue crime and safety bulletin alerts
•Improve community activity related communications
In addition to the quarterly meetings, the Community Relations Team will also conduct biannual visits to the businesses to obtain after-hours contact information, check the business license, ensure the address is prominently posted, inspect for potential hazards, provide a security review, analyze safety and security needs for the business and ensure the business owners have emergency and non-emergency contacts for the police department, fire and rescue and EMTs.
