The goal of the attraction is pretty clear.
“During October we scare folks,” said Sean Jones, chief volunteer for Spooktrail. “It’s well over a quarter of a mile of maze through the woods in an old junk yard. It is full of twists and turns and bone chilling spooky stuff.”
Unlike many other area attractions, Spooktrail does allow volunteers to grab and touch people as they wind through the maze.
“We really do try to scare you,” Jones said.
On any given night 10 to 20 volunteers staff the event and Jones attribute Spooktrail’s continued success to them.
“It wouldn’t be possible without the cast, crew, friends and family,” Jones said. “Their dedication is what makes this event happen.”
The event originally began as a way to keep the area kids out of trouble and give them something fun and constructive to do.
The Spooktrail will be open for the next two Friday and Saturday nights from dark until midnight and Halloween night from dark until 10 p.m. The cost is $13 per person or $8 with a canned food donation. The canned food is donated to the United Way Community Food Bank. Children age 5 and under are free. There is no age limit for the event. Jones said that each parent and child will have to determine whether they can handle it or not, although he said that the volunteers will take pity if someone gets too frightened.
“If at any point someone gets too scared we do get you out,” Jones said. “We don’t torment you through the whole thing.”
