Damon McAllister, the longtime leader of the school’s band, was suspended last week. Adkins said he could not provide any details about the reasons for the suspension.
“This action is pending a full investigation by the Walker County Board of Education,” Adkins said.
Cullman attorney Zeb Little is representing McAllister and said his client hopes to get back to work soon.
“Mr. McAllister hasn’t been charged with anything, and he denies any wrongdoing,” Little said. “We’re going through the process at this point. The school board has a duty to investigate any allegations, but Mr. McAllister is hopeful to get back to work soon.”
Adkins said he appreciates the work McAllister has done during his time as Curry’s band director.
“I know the work he has done with that program,” Adkins said. “Nobody likes to have to deal with things like this, but when an allegation is brought to us, it is our job to investigate it. I hope the investigation proves that nothing happened. Facts are facts, and that is what we will use to make a decision on this situation and any other situation. Our determination will be based on facts and the truth.”
