Six high school volleyball teams from Walker County advanced to Super Regional Tournament play.

Only one remains.

Curry was the lone school from Walker County to advance to Day 2 at the Super Regional Volleyball Tournament at Huntsville on Friday.

Fifth-ranked Curry (46-11) opened the two-day event with a 25-18, 24-26, 25-23, 25-13 win over Muscle Shoals. The top four finishers at the Super Regional advance to the Elite Eight State Tournament set for Oct. 31-Nov. 1 in Birmingham.

Curry takes on No. 2 Hartselle at 9 a.m. today. A win would put the Yellow Jackets into the final four at the tournament, earning them a spot at the state tournament.

While Curry stayed on course for a second straight trip to the Elite 8, other teams from the county weren't so lucky.

Walker, Carbon Hill, Cordova, Oakman and Dora each saw their seasons come to an end on Saturday.

Walker dropped a four-set match to No. 3-ranked Lawrence County, losing 25-22, 25-18, 22-25, 25-15.

In Class 3A, Cordova (36-20)fell to Piedmont 25-12, 25-16, 25-27, 25-18 to see its season come to a close. In 2A, Oakman (16-19) fell to No. 3 Lexington 25-7, 25-5, 25-8.

Two Class 4A county teams lost at the South Super Regional Tournament in Montgomery.

Carbon Hill dropped its first match 25-22, 25-10, 25-18 to No. 6 St. James while Dora was ousted by No. 7 Alabama Christian 25-11, 25-17, 25-14.

As bad as things were for schools in Walker County, teams from Winston County finished a perfect 4-0 in Super Regional play on Friday.

Addison, Lynn, Meek and Winston County are each one win away from the state tournament following victories.

In Class 1A, top-ranked Addison, No. 3 Lynn and Meek picked up straight-set wins.

Addison (51-4) defeated Tharptown 25-3, 25-9, 25-3. The Bulldogs will take on Covenant Christian at 10:30 a.m. today. On the opposite end of the bracket, both Lynn and Meek won.

Lynn (27-13) picked up a 25-12, 25-17, 25-10 win over Whitesburg Christian. The Bears take on No. 9 Cedar Bluff at 9 a.m. today. Meek (18-22) defeated Phillips-Bear Creek 25-14, 25-15, 25-16. The Tigers face Waterloo at 9 a.m. today.

Playing in the Class 3A bracket, No. 8 Winston County (35-20) advanced to today's round with a 21-25, 26-24, 25-16, 26-24 win over Saks. The Yellow Jackets play No. 9 Ashville at 10:30 p.m. today.
