The Blue Devils, who gained momentum in the second half of the season, won for the third time in the last four weeks, handing Class 5A Curry its ninth straight loss in the process.
Cordova outscored Curry 22-7 down the stretch. With the teams tied at 28-28 in the final quarter, Cordova took command after touchdown runs by both Zack Smith and Minor.
Curry was led by quarterback Bradley Loggins, who completed 26 of 42 passes for 366 yards.
Curry opened the game passing the ball. On its second possession of the game, the Jackets took three plays to find the end zone when Loggins hit Jarrod Owens for a 9-yard score. Loggins kicked the extra point to put Curry on top 7-0.
Cordova answered with its running game.
With 3:55 left in the opening quarter, Minor ran in from 1 yard out and Jamaal Cooper converted the two-point conversion to put Cordova on top 8-7. Back to the pass, Loggins again went to Lane Oliver for 18 yards and the touchdown. Loggins kicked thru the extra point for a 14-8 score. On their following possession, Cordova ran the ball to the Curry-10 yard line. This time Chase Trotter threw to Cooper in the corner of the end zone for the score. The two-point try failed tying the score at 14.
Curry then turned the tables and lined up in a wildcat formation. Twice on the drive Owens used a jump pass to show he could throw also, the final pass was complete to Oliver for a 2-yard touchdown. Loggings kicked the point after for a 21-14 lead.
Cordova came back with just 11 seconds before the half and score from one yard out as Minor ran it in again, making the score 21-20 at the half.
The second half would be more of the same as both teams mirrored the first half stats. Cordova had 200 yards rushing in the first half and 212 yards in the second half. Curry had 216 passing yards in the first half and 199 in the second.
But it was Cordova making the most of their yards by out-scoring Curry 22-7 in the second half.
There wasn't a punt until midway through the fourth quarter, thanks to a fake that set up Cordova in the third quarter for a TD pass from Trotter to Cooper from six yards outs. This time Stephen Kilpatrick kicked the extra point for a 28-21 Cordova lead.
But again the passing game proved to work for Curry as Owens found Jacob Gilliland for a 33-yard pass to set up a scoring pass from Loggins to Owens to tie the game at 28-28 after Loggings kicked the point after.
From there, it was all Cordova. Smith ran 28 yards for a score to put Cordova back on top 35-28 after Kilpatrick's extra point kick.
The Devils’ defense forced a fumble from Loggings and Aaron Adams recovered to set up a 3-yard run by Minor for the final points.
Minor finished the night with 96 yards on 22 carries and 3 touchdowns. Trotter only completed three passes on the night but two of them went for scores.
Cordova closes the season at 3-7 while Curry fell to 1-9.
