One item of old business was the sale of surplus vehicles. Originally there were three vehicles considered “surplus,” but since that time, one of the police vehicles has been repaired and returned to service. That leaves another police vehicle and a pickup truck still in surplus.
New Mayor Randy Stephens said that he had been contacted by the City of Oakman regarding the police vehicle and had agreed to allow a member of their council and their police chief to look at the vehicle to see if they were interested in making an offer.
The council eventually decided to place the pickup truck up for bid. Anyone interested should submit a sealed bid to Dora City Hall.
In other news, the council:
• Approved a resolution allowing Stephens to enter a contract with Nelson Brothers as the engineer for the East Walker Sewer Authority improvements funded by the Community Development Block Grant. They also approved the entering of a contract with Community Consultants to serve as the administrator of that project.
•Approved the $29,783 for the grant match funds on the sidewalk project that will run alongside Horsecreek Boulevard.
•Approved Stephens’ hire of Lawanda Bradley for the magistrate’s position, and agreed to fund that position at a rate of pay of $13.25 per hour.
•Approved Stephens’ hire of Lisa Barrett for the part-time office assistant position created by the last council. They also agreed to fund that position at a rate of pay of $9 per hour.
•Agreed to pay new city attorney Jim Brakefield $150 per hour for his work.
•Agreed to recommend former council member Donnie Burns for the vacant position on the East Walker Sewer Authority Board. The seat was vacated by Stephens when he was elected mayor.
•Agreed to purchase a computer for the mayor’s office.
•Agreed to pay an invoice for a new camera and security system that was installed in city hall.
•Agreed to authorize Stephens to have some work done around city hall, including partitions and other minor office improvements.
