SUMITON — Two local women wanted to do something to help Save Our Strays as they established a new shelter in Sumiton to deal with stray animals.

Julie Leach and her sister decided to host a fun pet show as a fundraiser.

“We wanted to do something to help them out and have some fun,” Leach said.

The event will be Dec. 1 next to the Sumiton City Park on Main Street. Registration will begin at noon and the show will start at 1 p.m.

There will be a variety of categories, including:smallest, largest, best dressed, owner look-a-like, cutest, ugliest, best tricks, most unusual, youth with pet, adult with pet, costume and a “Best in Show” awarded to the pet that receives the most points overall.

Pets and owners can enter as many categories as they like, for an entry fee of $5 per pet, per category. For $25 a pet can be entered into an unlimited number of categories.

“All the money will go back to the shelter to help purchase kennels and pay for spay and neuter operations for the animals in their care,” Leach said.

All animals are welcome but must be leashed or contained in a carrier. Any aggressive or unruly pets or owners will be asked to leave.

For more information contact Leach at (205)243-2636 or her sister and fellow organizer June Vines at (205)213-8257.
