On Nov. 22, 2012, Buel "Blondie" Owens went to be with the Lord at the age of 90 and having been married for 70 years to his loving wife, Carolyn Headrick Owens.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at 9:30 a.m. at Collins-Burke Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at 10 a.m. in the Collins-Burke Chapel with burial at New Canaan Baptist Church in Empire. Collins-Burke Funeral Home will direct.

"Blondie" is survived by his wife, Carolyn; daughter, Brenda Owens Holloway (Max); son, William Craig Owens; grandchildren, Kimberley Harwood (Richard), Ashley Wilks (Bryan), and Mattie Owens; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Madison, Sam Harwood and Gracie, Isabella, Lucy Wilks, all of whom loved him dearly. He also leaves behind three nephews and nine nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Mattie Owens; siblings, Leonard Owens, Willie Bee Hall, Gertrude Wood, James Owens, Winfred Owens, and Vonda Owens; and infant grandchildren, Julie Marcelle and William Jameson Owens.

"Blondie" retired in 1985 from Hayes Aircraft where he had many friends. He was an active Mason for many years. He was passionate about his country and he worked tirelessly in many political campaigns. He was chairman of the Walker County Republicans during the mid sixties. He was an outdoorsman, loved fishing, hunting, gardening and a good cigar. He took pride in teaching young people the art of fishing and hunting.

Pallbearers are Terry Key, Don Phillips, Bruce Hamrick, Roger Miles, Harold McNiese, and Wendell "Bubba" Muncher.

Honorary Pallbearers are his friends he spent many hours with at the "fork of the Mulberry River" and all of his hunting buddies.
