The Samuel Lee Smith Advised Fund is once again teaming up with the Arthritis Foundation for Jasper’s annual Jingle Bell Run/Walk.

The event began seven years ago to honor the memory of Samuel Lee Smith, a local runner, husband and father who died in a car accident. The fund established in his name helps improve the lives of local youth.

Last year, the Arthritis Foundation expressed an interest in bringing a jingle bell run/walk to Walker County.

“It seemed like the perfect fit,” said Smith’s widow, Jennifer.

The couple’s daughter, Brylee, has arthritis in over 40 joints as well as a rare autoimmune disease.

Registration for the Jingle Bell Run/Walk will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Walker County Courthouse Square. The race will kickoff at 9 a.m., and a Santa Chase for participants 12 and under will be held at 10 a.m.

Prizes will be awarded for the best times as well as best costume.

The cost to enter is $25 for adults and $15 for those $12 and under.
