The Jasper Police Department is opening its doors to area residents during an open house event scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 13.

Most areas of the police department will be available to the public during the event.

“We are a community-oriented police department. We want to be a part of the community and available to our residents. The open house is another way to do that,” Police Chief Connie Cooner Rowe said.

Rowe said many residents only have negative reasons to visit the police department. She hopes the open house can be a positive experience.

“Even if it is just coming to the police department to pick up an accident report, many people only see us when something bad has happened,” Rowe said. “We want to give people a chance for positive interaction with our department and our officers.”

This marks the second year the police department has hosted an open house in December. Rowe said more than 300 area residents attended the open house last year.

“We had a great turnout,” she said. “Our officers enjoyed getting to meet so many folks, and I received nothing but positive feedback from the residents who were here.”

The open house, which is being sponsored by Scott Crump Toyota, will include food catered by Bill Frey of Café Bills in Jasper and music provided by local artist Jeff Parnell.

“We are thankful to those who are helping support the open house,” Rowe said. “Because of their generosity, we can do this without spending a dime of any city money or department budgeted money.”

The Jasper Police Department will hold its open house from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13. For more information, call JPD at 205-221-6790.
