Carl worked as a millwright (Local Union 1000) in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., for many years before retiring in 1992 and moving to Jasper. He was a member of Curry Church of Christ. Carl enjoyed gardening and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his son, Carl W. Sloan; grandson, Jedidiah Bethel Sloan; brother, Harold Sloan; and sisters, Gertrude Sloan, Lena Studstill and Leona Sloan.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 62 years, Jackie Holland Sloan; sons, Jack Sloan and wife, Amy, of Jasper, John Sloan and wife, Lynn, of Deltona, Fla., and James Sloan and wife, Cindy, of Quitman, Ga.; sister, Leila Basler of Pt. St. Lucie, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be held on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Curry Church of Christ, located at 5454 Curry Highway in Jasper.
