The second annual Festival of Christmas Trees is currently taking place inside the shopping center. The event is sponsored by Ready Walker CERT Animals in Disaster, the Walker County Animal Shelter and the Jasper Mall Merchants Association.
“The Jasper Mall has again graciously donated the use of their wonderful venue,” said Christine Wilson, an organizer of the event.
The fundraiser is open for any area charities to participate. Trees are donated and are auctioned via a silent auction with the funds going to the group the tree was designated to assist. Groups benefiting from the trees include the Walker County Animal Shelter, the Arc of Walker County, Ready Walker CERT spay and neuter fund and Friends of 4H-4U.
“The success of the Festival of Trees is made possible by the generosity of our community,” Wilson said. “The trees are donated to raise money for very worthwhile organizations in our county.”
Timothy Dustin, a volunteer at the animal shelter, said there is space for more charities to have a tree in the fundraiser.
“A tree can be entered to benefit a service group or charity,” he said. “There is still a little time left to add a few trees.”
Trees are currently on display near the K-mart entrance of Jasper Mall, and the silent auction for the trees is now open. Dustin said the auction will end at the close of business Sunday. Winners of each auction will receive the tree and all decorations.
Organizers are also accepting donations for the organizations benefitting from the trees. “If someone doesn’t want to bid on a tree, they can just leave a donation,” Dustin said.
